Paul Gilbert
90 Miles to Cuba Photography
Like most people you may know me simply as Gilbert. I arrived at the end of the road in 1997 by way of Greyhound and was instantly captivated by the islands undeniable natural beauty, funky vibe and local population of creative, artistic and unique people from all walks of life and corners of the world. Three decades later my love affair continues, inspiring my signature black and white photographs that you may have seen me capturing on the streets of Key West.
I didn’t set out to be a photographer and learned through 1000% trial and error — mostly error. With the invention of the iPhone and the incredible shots the average idiot was able to capture, myself included, I started taking pictures on my iPhone 6 about 10 years ago while I was delivering produce in downtown Seattle during a brief hiatus from island life. The ever changing street scenes with the busy loading docks, grungy back alleys and unbelievable urban graffiti ignited my imagination to start documenting some of my daily adventures.
My style of photography has been influenced and created by a combination of things throughout my life. My childlike fascination with clouds and love of the ocean. Fortuitously coming across two books while attending the University of Wyoming that would forever change my view of black and white images — Ansel Adams Yosemite and Charles Moore’s Powerful Days. And lastly, randomly discovering the works of Barbara Mensch and the time encapsulating photos of Key West local Tom Corcoran at a used book sale.
Thank you for taking the time to appreciate my photography and allowing me to show the world my love of my island home Key West.

Print FAQ
Paper:
Each photo will be printed on Hahnemuhle Photo Paper, which has a smooth, non-textured surface and luster finish (between satin and matte, excellent for richness while minimizing glare).
Borders:
Your print will come with an additional 1/2" white border on all sides to help you frame and mat your piece, should you choose to. For example, after borders are added, your 8x10" print will arrive on a piece of paper that is 9x11".
If you want to frame your piece in a ready-made frame without a mat, this white border may be trimmed off. Don't hesitate to reach out with any questions you may have.
Turnaround Times:
90 Miles to Cuba is a one man show..! Please allow 2-3 week turnaround time for all prints. Once your order is placed, I'll get the piece into production on the following Monday, and it should be shipped out the following week.
